Dhyanyogi Madhusudandasji Mahant Maharaj (1878 - 1994)
Shri Dhyanyogi was an exceptional master of
yogic science. Born in Bihar, India, Shri Dhyanyogi was a very
meditative child. His spiritual quest began at the age of seven when he
ran away from home in search of God. Although he was quickly found by
his parents, he left again for good at age 13.
He mastered Mantra, Yantra, Hatha, Raja and Jnana Yoga, and
became adept at yogic philosophies and scriptures. Yet after 30 years of
austerities and intense searching, he had not attained his highest
goal, the ultimate encounter with God. Finally, in 1921 on Mount Abu, he
came into the presence of a great master, Yogiraj Parameshwardas, who
gave him Shaktipat initiation. He immediately went into the highest state of samadhi,
remained in that state for 3 days and attained the ultimate goal of God
realization.
By the grace and instructions of Shri Parameshwardas, Shri
Dhyanyogiji became a master of Kundalini Maha Yoga, with the power to
awaken the dormant Kundalini in spiritual aspirants. He founded an
ashram at Bandhwad, Gujarat, India, where he carried his work and
teachings. In 1960, Shri Dhyanyogiji was inspired to begin public
instruction in Kundalini Maha Yoga and to conduct group meditation programs throughout India. In 1976, as part of his mission to assist
spiritual seekers, he came to America, where he initiated through Shaktipat thousands of Americans into the path of Dhyanyoga, or meditation,
and established centers from coast to coast. He returned to India in
1980 and spent his remaining years in Ahmedabad, Gujarat. He left his
body at the age of 116, entering Maha Samadhi on August 29, 1994.
Shri Dhyanyogiji's pure love and devotion to the welfare of
mankind changed the hearts of the thousands of people whose lives he
touched. Today, his energy continues to work at the subtle level and
through his spiritual heir, Shri Anandi Ma.
Shri Anandi Ma
Shri Anandi Ma is Shri Dhyanyogiji's spiritual
heir. She was known for many years as Asha Ma or Ashadevi. In 1993, Shri
Dhyanyogiji gave her the spiritual name of Anandi Ma, which means "One
who is in Bliss and keeps others in Bliss."
Shri Dhyanyogiji met Anandi Ma in Bombay, India, when she was
only 14. She was a quiet and devoted child who would sit for hours at
the temples. At the age of 14 she began to spontaneously enter very deep
meditative states, often for long periods of time. She finally entered a
state of meditation so deep than none of her family or friends could
awaken her. Her concerned parents went to Shri Dhyanyogiji for help.
Shri Dhyanyogiji immediately recognized her as a very advanced
soul. He found her to be the most spiritually advanced person, at such a
young age, he had ever met. After he woke her she said: "I saw the
light of a million suns." She also had a vision of the Divine Mother.
Shri Dhyanyogi asked her to describe her vision. "Did you see her as a
picture, a statue, a living being?" Shri Anandi Ma answered, "just as I
see you now."
Seeing her great potential to become a spiritual teacher and
continue his work, he gave her Shaktipat initiation. With her parents
consent, she left home shortly after receiving Shaktipat to stay
permanently with Shri Dhyanyogiji. He put aside all of his major
activities and for four years worked almost exclusively with her,
training her to control and radiate her energies for the welfare of
humanity, especially by giving Shaktipat to others. During that period,
Anandi Ma would enter profound states of meditation for hours at a time.
From the beginning, Shri Anandi Ma worked and traveled alongside
Shri Dhyanyogiji, and she came with him to America in 1976. When he
returned to India in 1980, he asked Shri Anandi Ma and Dileepji to enter
a spiritual marriage and to continue his work together.
Today, Shri Anandi Ma and Dileepji travel extensively in India,
the United States and Europe, providing spiritual guidance and Shaktipat initiation to sincere seekers, and continuing the charitable and
humanitarian works begun during Shri Dhyanyogiji's lifetime, which
include operating a hospital, sponsoring eye surgery camps and providing
food for the poor.
Dileepji
Dileepji, like Shri Anandi Ma, was Shri
Dhyanyogiji's student since his early teens. Throughout his years of
schooling, Dileepji spent as much time as he could with Shri
Dhyanyogiji, growing up with him, accompanying him in his travels, and
absorbing Shri Dhyanyogiji's nature and temperament. With Shri
Dhyanyogiji's guidance he performed intense spiritual practices,
mastered many yogic disciplines and became one of Shri Dhyanyogiji's
most advanced disciples. He was empowered by Shri Dhyanyogiji to perform Shaktipat initiation.
He came to the United States in 1974 to attend university and
Shri Dhyanyogiji told him, "You go and I shall come later." Dileepji is
the spiritual name given to him by Shri Dhyanyogiji, and it means "One
who wins the hearts of others."

Benefits of Meditation
-
The ultimate benefit of meditation is the realization of God, but there are many other advantages in every stage of spiritual development. Because the awakening of the Kundalini has the effect of purifying the body in general and the nervous system in particular, diseases of the body and mind are greatly improved.
About
-
The tradition of worship and adoration by a group is an ancient one in India, as well as in other parts of the world and in many religious traditions. Congregation is the rule rather than the exception. In group meditation, the individuality of the meditator subserves the emergence of a group "personality."
